Hello! I am Stephanie!
I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I have worked in various mental health settings such as corrections, community mental health, Child and Family Services, Northern communities, non-profit organizations and private settings. A major focus of my work has been trauma and addiction counselling. I have spent a lot of time with helping people with anxiety and depression management and helping my clients develop healthy coping skills, reduce stress and improve communication skills. I have also focused on youth counselling and couples counselling, helping couples to find their connection and dealing with conflict.
I have a Master of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, with addtional training in Eye Movement Desentization and Reprocessing Therapy to address trauma. I am also trained in Dialectical Behavourial Therapy, Cognitive Behavourial Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Based Therapy, Acceptance and Committment Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy Inner Child Work, Nutrionial Psychology and Humanistic approaches. I also have additional training in Attachment Theory to help with behavourial issues related to ADHD, ODD and conduct disorders. I have a background in crisis management and suicide risk assessment.
I have been in the mental health field for 5 years, working as a therapist for 2 years. I also integrate my passion for fitness into my counselling practice as a certified personal trainer with expertise in nutritional wellness. In my free time, I go to the gym, play with my puppy Jax, and attended the CFL officiating academy with the goal of officiating my first CFL game. I'm blessed to have a supportive partner who encourages me in all my endeavours. I also enjoy travelling and discovering new cultures.
Meet Jax!
I'm thrilled to report I've been diligently preparing my dog Jax to join the ranks of therapy animals. Research shows that animals have a soothing effect which can be harnessed to promote better outcomes in therapy sessions, and also alleviate anxiety and bolster comfort. He is very lovable and enjoys all my clients that come in for their in-person appointments.
